Dear Natchaug Families,
As our school year opens it is obvious we have a year like no other. As we begin the 2020-2021 school year together, I want to thank our whole community for your support, your questions, suggestions, and for your encouragement as we have purposefully prepared for this year. I also want to thank you all for your patience and flexibility as we open our school in a thoughtful and cautious way.
Through the summer we have been working to design health protocols, create cohorts for our hybrid period, and working hard to increase social distance between and among our students and staff. Since August 27th our teachers and staff have been back at Natchaug learning about our new health protocols, blended learning approaches, accelerating instruction, responsive classroom, and more. We have also been working together to set up more socially distanced classrooms and ways to maintain cohort isolation in the building.
Again, thank you for your patience, the roll out of distance components is still in process, we are excited to announce that 100% of Natchaug students are connected virtually as we have built up to the full balance of the hybrid model with two days of in-person instruction balanced by three days of virtual instruction, live streaming, and independent asynchronous work at home. We are hopefully optimistic that we will reach our fully opened phase, with more full days of in-person instruction, for all students whose parents and guardians do not choose to keep them at home in the distance model. Here are some of our expectations related to virtual learning:
This will be a school year like no other. But like every other year, I can confidently assure you that the teachers, learners, and leaders at Natchaug will do everything in our power to be creative within our new boundaries and will encourage our students to do the same. We look forward to another amazing school year together!
